And another update....
Just an update - so it appeared my future was solid with my present company. I would be within a year the GIS department manager, would receive the accolades associated with such a lofty & venerable position & with the cherry on top - get a big fucking ass full of cash. But I have to complicate things - I want something different.
I had the second casual interview with an organization that I have long respected while living in Atlanta & wished to work for. I would be involved with a subject that I spend countless hours chatting with 16 year old geeks on the computer - planning. Of course I am not a planner, so don't give me that "where is your AICP certificate" lecture - I would be the principal GIS analyst for the
planning department. No, that doesn't mean I'll spend all my days making maps & getting the planners coffee, but because there is already a GIS department, I would act as liason between the two groups & coordinate GIS needs for my division.
So I'll get that management / coordination experience without the hassle of sucking up to execs & city council members while being associated with something I personally have strong views on. Essentially - this is my dream job, plus I get fewer hours to work & it's a few blocks closer to home.
But the only dilemna, if there is one - is pay. I will most likely be making less, but I'm willing to be flexible within $10k - especially since social security is exempt.
Also - on the home front, I'm shooting my wife up with drugs every morning & evening. Which of course is a thrill (another Iggy Pop sing along: "here comes my wife again, with the needles & drugs.... she wants to have a test tube baby..."). Also, we're looking into selling the back half of our grass filled lot. Yay! Smaller yard to cut & we get a butt load of cash!
