The Mind of Olivia Drab

What am I doing right now?

It's 6:45 am. I have been awake for an hour. Why? Because Brad is sick. I came home from work last night with a migraine (big shocker)and went straight to bed. So I had gotten roughly 12 hours of sleep last night. And yet this morning I feel groggy. Hmm.

So this is what is going through my head:

1) I am plotting the next episode of The Infertile and Hormona. Expect more Ripapod, all I'm saying...

2) I am thinking of what I can eat for breakfast that doesn't involve "breakfast foods". I hate "breakfast foods". If Thai restaurants were open for breakfast I would be there in a flash. And damn you Taco Bell for not having a 24-hour business. Anyone have any ideas?

3) I'm wondering if that blasted email that contained "Grandma's Secrets" was correct about corn oil in a cat's ear to rid them of ear mites. Because Effie and Tweaker have them again.

4) I'm wondering if my pending trip to Minneapolis for a press check will interfere with my IVF schedule.
5) C is for Cookie, that's good enough for me.

------------

The last bastion of breakfast salvation: The taquito. Fortunately I work for a company that has bar none the best, most badass taquitos that you can buy. At least by "fast food" taquito standards anyhow. Happy tummy.

------------

I must clarify. I hate breakfast foods at breakfast. But I do like them at OTHER meals. Nothing tastes better than a pecan waffle at 10pm. But sweet food and foods designated for breakfast at breakfast time, I just have little interest.

It's just my opinion, of course, but nothing starts the morning off quite like a Ring Ding.

Did you know I was a vet tech for eight years?

No corn oil. Mineral Oil (you can use baby oil). It doesn't, technically, get rid of ear mites, but it does drown them and will help you clean them out.

Here's the trick, in case you haven't done this before:

1. Put cat on an easily cleaned surface. maybe put down newspaper.
2.. Put about a teaspoon (really) of oil in the ear. Hold your cats head so they don't shake, and rub the oil into the ear thouroughly.
3. Let go of your cat and leap away fast. Cat will shake head to get oil out and oil will go places you can't imagine.
4. use a kleenex wrapped around the tip of your finger to clean out left over oil/mite muck (you may have to do this several times). You can use q-tips as well, just be careful to not go down into the ear canal.
5. If it looks pretty clean, go ahead and do the next ear. If not, repeat until it does.

Enjoy!

OH Cecily!! Bless you a million billion times over. Thank you so much for this advice. I had been thinking corn oil sounded a bit... much. Thank you, I will "get 'em" tonight.

By the way, how many times does it take? Does it kill them all the first round or does it take a couple days to do the trick?

OK, now that I'm reading all this stuff about ear mites and baby oil, I can't even THINK about eating a Ring Ding. Thanks a lot.

If I understand correctly from everyone: Don't eat breakfast food at breakfast or your cats will get ear mites and need mineral oil not corn oil for removal, so it's best to eat at Taco Bell instead. But it's not good to eat there for 24 hours. (?)

Yeah, um stawberry shortcake for breakfast....and lunch, and dinner! We went to the local Stawberry Festival yesterday (Plant City, FL) and came home with the requisite palate of strawberries that have now taken over my fridge. YUM! They fit my low-carb diet and I even made a "cream" for dipping them that has zero carbs (cream cheese, heavy whipping cream, and splenda) but the Angel Food cake...well ya can't have stawberry shortCAKE without it! Oh, and I agree breakfast for dinner yum!

One more thing, when you do the ears have a towel close that you can put over your cats head (dont lay it on her head but hold it over her) to catch all the oil as she shakes.

I'm a big fan of savory and/or nonconventional breakfasts myself - the more pungent, the better. Nothing wakes you up like a bowlful of pasta dressed with olive oil, garlic, wilted kale, and anchovies! And scorching mouthfuls of reheated Thai food make screaming curses at Katie Couric just that much easier. John Thorne, a fine food writer, keeps an online diary of his odd but delicious breakfasts. It's worth reading:
