Interesting Reading

Interesting for ME anyhow...

We got a copy of the lab report for the d&c. It included operating room notes made by the doctor. Overall, the reading was hard to read, at first, as you can imagine. But once I stopped reading it as a lost mother and put it into "interested scientist" perspective, it was really quite fascinating.

The majority of the notes were based on the actual reason for the d&c, the details of which I will spare you. But what piqued my interest was this:

Upon final inspection, it was noted that there exists a thickened mass in the posterior of the uterus. Possibly fibrous tissue. Patient had not communicated knowledge of existing fibroids, so proper diagnosis cannot be made at this time.

Note: I was losing my pregnancy, so fibroids were really the last topic of conversation at this ER visit. But I have been told repeatedly that I have them and that "they are nothing to worry your pretty little head over *pat pat*". I think they ARE, in fact, something to worry about. But I suppose I am no doctor... only a woman with multiple unexplained (did I mention UNEXPLAINED?) pregnancy losses. Lazy bastards.

Another possibility is that he was not in fact seeing a fibroid (as I have been told I have THREE tiny fibroids, not one large fibroid), but he may have been seeing the mythical SEPTUM. According to the notes, it is in the exact location that 2nd Opinion RE noted a possible septum at pregnancy u/s #1.

Either way, whenever I get the all-clear from my new RE, I am having WHATEVER IT IS removed. Get the hell out of my ute, you squatter!!

I had 6 miscarriages. In my first pg an ultrasound showed a uterine abnormality- they didn't tell me until 3rd pg. They assured me it was only bicornuate, and wasn't causing m/c. Had a hystogram or whatever its called- this was 16 years ago. Confirmed bicornuate. Two obs, and every article I could find (pre internet) said it was no problem. Had 3 more m/c. Started using b/c and adopted. When my daughter was nine months old I was contacted my a university doing research on multiple m/c. When I told the researcher about my uterus he stopped. He said thats your problem, I told him no and what everyone else had said. He immediately had the well know Dr who was head of the department call me. He said come and I will fix it. I went, it turned out it was septate. He did a short laser surgery- I didn't even stay over night. A year later I became pg. Not one spot, not one problem. I delivered a beautiful girl at 36 weeks. 3 years later I had another one, again a problem free pg. Previous OB's actually were shocked. Long story, sorry. But I would urge you to see if getting whatever is in there taken care of.

I can't wait for you to see this new RE..and have the hysteroscopy done!!! I really DO believe that this may be the roots of the problems. In my mind, if the drs, or you have any question that this could be the cause...it needs to be dealt with. When is your appt. again?

Lisa, wow! That is the worst I have heard yet! It astounds me the arrogance some doctors have when they *think* they know what is in your best interest. Sorry, but NOT investigating an obvious malformation when all else is exhausted.. NOT in one's best interest. I am glad your story had a happy ending.

Tiff--the consultation appt with 3rd Opinion RE is Aug. 3. Coming up soon!!

My sister-in-law, after four years of infertility and miscarriages, had the laproscopy surgery and became pregnant soon after. She was also told that she had a septate and numerous fibroids, scar tissue, etc. I also have been told by an ultrasound tech that I have numerous small fibroids and I worry about them often. I've had one viable pregnancy but I worry about future and the fibroids growing. They say that they usually don't interfere with pregnancies but I don't think they take them seriously enough. Good luck and I'll be praying for you.

Keep your chin up! It sounds like you are getting to the root of the problem. The surgery to have the "thing" removed sounds like a simple solution to your problem. It can't hurt to have them take out what ever it is, right? Let us know how it goes!

Gee I guess now we know why they call it "practicing" medicine!!! Olivia I am so hoping that you get that thing evicted out of your ute!!! It doesn't belong there .. but a baby does!!!

Holy cow, Melissa - I say get it out of there!! The other stories are scary. They always say that "this" or "that" isn't causing m/c but how can they know for sure???

I'm glad you're willing to tell the Dr. what you think and what you want. - Kym

Enough is enough. It's baby time. I'm tired of them f****** around with your body and your emotions (and mine. Don't these doctors have any feelings for your friends at all?)

Could be these three fibroids grew into one helluva mass??? Or maybe the mythical septum. Whatever it is, I don't care, lets just get rid of it.

All these dr's seem to do is PRACTICE how to say, "Oh, that's nothing to worry about." My word, if an embryo wants to implant where it's supposed to and there is something there that restricts blood flow or doesn't allow it to implant, I would say that's definitely a problem worth repairing.
You are so going to be miles ahead of these ninnies, cuz you know way more then them already!
